Bright, floral, refreshing, and unusually Kool-Aid hued—the Aviation cocktail is an easy-to-pull off but very impressive summertime drink. Not to mention that it looks totally dreamy next to our Taro dinnerware .
A classic Aviation tastes like the best version of those retro violet candies that come in the metallic bright purple wrapper (anyone??) and is absolutely delightful as is, but we decided to make a little riff on the original just because it looked so pretty in our Handblown Rocks Glasses. Ours skips the Maraschino liqueur and adds, instead, a delicate hibiscus-rose syrup. A little dry-shake with an egg white gives it the froth and body of classic sour-style rocks drink. It tastes how a day-drunk nap in a springtime garden smells—you know what we mean?
The key ingredient here is Crème de Violette. It's a french liqueur that has a lovely violet flavor that really can't be replaced. You should be able to find it at most specialty liquor stores. We particularly like the Rothman & Winter brand.
