"Stop the Hate" by Alessandra Olanow
Still We Rise is an online benefit auction started by Lindsay Meyer-Harley, founder of Portland-based Darling Clementine, following this year's inauguration in an effort to foster community and create a sustainable source of support for important organizations whose futures are currently threatened. Each auction benefits one or more organizations and takes place on the Still We Rise's Instagram.
East Fork is excited to donate a Large Potter's Bowl in Harvest Moon to SWR's current auction, which benefits Planned Parenthood and the Southern Poverty Law Center.
Both of these organizations provide indispensable support for marginalized and vulnerable people in our country, and the work of the Southern Poverty Law Center hits particularly close to home. Founded in 1971 in order to hold governments in the South accountable for the promises made during the Civil Rights movement and in response to the continued marginalization of and discrimination against Southern African Americans that still continues today along with the marginalization of so many other communities.
The SPLC now defines itself as an organization "dedicated to fighting hate and bigotry and to seeking justice for the most vulnerable members of our society." The SPLC uses litigation, education, and other forms of advocacy to work towards equity - equal justice and equal opportunity. You can read more about their history and focus issues on their website and explore their Hate Map, an extensive interactive resource designed to track the activity of the 917 hate groups currently operating in the United States.
If you've been looking to treat yourself with something beautiful and been wondering how you can spread some love to those who need it most this holiday season, this is a perfect opportunity! 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the organization of your choice.
