You are invited to a 5-course farm-to-pottery dinner with East Fork Pottery & Table Restaurant
Saturday, September 14 at 6:30 pm
on the patio of Tod’s Tasties
at 102 Montford Avenue
Asheville, North Carolina 28801
When I moved to the Asheville area, I ate dinner at the bar of every acclaimed restaurant in town in search of a new home. After my first meal at Table, I returned every Monday night for a month until I asked for a job. Now, three and half years later, if you can't find Alex working a late night in the workshop you'll likely find him having dinner at the Table bar while I twirl around the dining room shaking cocktails and helping guests with the wine list.
Table opened its doors eight years ago, paving the way for seasonal, regional and sustainable cooking in Asheville. The daily-changing, New-American menu showcases the abundance of our region, always paying due respect to the small farms with whom the restaurant has forged long-lasting, symbiotic relationships. In my first year at Table I had the peculiar pleasure of serving dishes of rabbit, chicken, lamb and duck that I had personally helped raise and butcher at East Fork Farm. (Some guests found this terribly exciting and wanted only to order the animal that their server had personally killed and dressed; others winced, looked me up and down, and then went for the trout.)
As many of you know, Alex has been hard at work this summ er creating a line of contemporary dinnerware that would complement the wood-fired, traditional pottery that he knows and loves. Though the line is still evolving, we're very pleased with how it's shaping up.
[caption id="" align="alignnone" width="1024.0"] You won't be served bread, cheese, & grapes at the dinner - but it's what we had to work with at the beach! Thanks to Michael & Gretchen Matisse for staging this impromptu photo shoot while on vacation. [/caption]We believe that pottery is given a new, dynamic quality when it is put to use, filled with good food and drink and passed amongst good company. And though Alex makes the occasional closed form that takes two burly folks to lift, his work at East Fork Pottery is functional at its core. So it is with great pleasure that we join forces with Table to host a seasonal feast prepared by chef Jacob Sessoms to introduce East Fork Pottery's new line of dinnerware.
Tickets are $75 a person (plus tax & gratuity) and will include a cocktail, hors d'oeuvres, wine, and four courses. Jacob and I will collaborate on the menu using what we find at the Montford Farmer's Market. And we'll be calling our dear friend Mike Tiano of Haw River Wine Man to help us choose some awesome wine pairings. Alicia's beautifully landscaped patio at Tod's--overflowing with hydrangeas and lavender--will be the perfect stage for the show. And Alex's brother Nick Matisse--an awesome photographer--will be showing a series of prints shot during firings and making cycles at the pottery.
Unfortunately, because the kitchen at Tod's is quite small and only two chefs will be preparing dinner for 30+, we won't be able to accommodate most dietary restrictions--this will be a fully omnivorous meal indeed. However, if you would really like to come to dinner and think your allergy is easy to work around, please send me an e-mail and we'll see what we can do.
Seats at the table are filling up fast! Please e-mail, call or text me with your name, number in your party, and a telephone number to make a reservation:
connie.coady@gmail.com or 818.389.3417.
And of course, all East Fork Pottery dinnerware, serving ware, vases, and decorative pieces used for the dinner will be for available for purchase.
We look forward to eating and drinking with you!
xo,
Connie, Alex, Jacob & Alicia
