Karla Valdez and Bella

Clay Buddies: Karla Valdez

What do you do here at East Fork, Karla?
My job is to make the molds for the machines, to make sure there are no issues with and that they come out perfect. I make the dies for the machines. I make the molds for all the forms in the factory.

What do you like best about your job?
The people, for real. It's a great environment. How folks treat each other, it's unreal. I’ve been working for so many years and I’ve never been treated like this. This is like my second home. The support we all get. I enjoy engaging in my work without feeling pressured.

Where are you from?
SINALOA!!! Just kidding. They are tall. I’m from Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico, I think. It seems easy but I don’t even remember. I’ve been in the U.S. for 20 years.

What do you like to do when you aren’t working?
I like to take my dog Bella to the park. We walk for an hour or two. Also, I love to exercise. I love to play futbol.

What did you do before coming to work here?
I worked for a manufacturing company that made plastic materials. I was lead investigator for quality control for all forms. I was in charge of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shift. I worked there for 13 years. Eventually the company was sold and I was let go.

Do you have a favorite glaze/color?
I love Pollen and Millennial Pink but unfortunately they aren’t made any more. I wish there was some sort of fuschia color. Maybe they should do that next.

Two of Karla's favorite glazes: Millennial Pink and Pollen

What’s your favorite meal cooked at East Fork?
Well, everything. My favorite one is everything. One day Cherry made some Asian food. I don’t remember what it was but it was goooood.

 Thanks, Karla!
