Calling all lovers of Danish Modern design!
Making utensils, hair combs, jewelry and other items out of horn is a painstaking process that includes multiple rounds of sawing, sanding, shaping and polishing. Hornvarefabrikken, which is Danish for “The Hornware Factory,” has introduced some machinery to its process, which nevertheless remains largely unchanged in its 200+ year history.
These serving spoons were designed by Peder Husted, the son of Hornvarefabrikken’s founder, in the 1930s. At the time, he was thinking of using them to serve potatoes but their versatility will have you pairing them with salads of all sorts, among a great many more side dishes. Nearly 100 years later, the design still looks fresh.
